French

From: The Encyclopedia of Canada's Peoples/French/Richard Jones

Immigrants from France began coming to the New World in the early sixteenth century and, in doing so, they became one of Canada’s founding peoples. These early settlers and their descendants are discussed in the entry on French Canadians. This entry will focus on people who emigrated from France after 1760 and who identify their heritage as French. (See also ACADIANS; BASQUES; BRETONS.)
