A good deal of information on Lithuanian history, individual Lithuanians, and immigration may be found in the English-language Encyclopedia Lituanica, 6 vols. (Boston, 1970–78), and the much more substantial Lithuanian-language Lietuviu Enciklopedija, 35 vols. (Boston, 1953–66; additional updated volumes in 1969 and 1985).

A recent history of Lithuanian emigration by a Lithuanian historian, Alfonsas Eidintas, Lietuviu Kolumbai (Vilnius, 1993), provides up-to-date material on the causes of early emigration.

Articles on Canadian Lithuanians by Jonas Kardelis in vol. 10 of the Lietuviu Enciklopedija (1957) and by J.V. Danys in vol. 37 (1985) of the same work are particularly informative. Since Lithuanian-Canadian life was frequently intertwined with Lithuanian-American organizations, it is useful to consult Antanas Kucas, Lithuanians in America, rev. and trans. by Joseph Boley (Boston, 1975). There are only two books on Lithuanian-Canadians: Lithuanians in Canada, an encyclopedic guide written by a group headed by Pranas Gaida (Toronto, 1967), and Milda Danys, DP: Lithuanian Immigraion to Canada after the Second World War (Toronto, 1986), which focuses on the arrival of the DP generation.

The most important archival collections of Lithuanian-Canadian material are in the Ethnic Archives of the National Archives of Canada in Ottawa and in the Archives of Ontario in Toronto. Readers should also consult Milda Danys, “Lithuanian Collections at the Multicultural Hisotry Society of Ontario,” Polyphony: The Bulletin of the Multicultural History Society of Ontario, vol.9, no.1 (Toronto, 1987), 35–38, and “Lithuanian Collection,” in Nick Forte, comp., G. Scardellato, ed., A Guide to the Collections of the Multicultural History Society of Ontario (Toronto, 1992), 323–37.
