Julian Freeman, of Indianapolis, Ind., president of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, will be the speaker. He is past president of Beth-El Congregation (Conservative). Educated at Crane College and Chicago Art Institute, he is an architect and a designer and manufacturer of store interiors. In the First World War he served as a First Lieutenant in the Field Artillery, and later taught school before specializing in commercial architecture. • PIONEER WOMEN twelfth con* vention, in Chicago, 111., at the Sherman Hotel,,had present from Toronto: Mesdames I. Markns, of Toronto; Leo H. Marcus, of Belleville, Ont.; Herman Cohen, Yarmouth, N. S., who were selected by the national executive and departed from New York. The majority of the funds .were raised by the Judaeans in their spring national scholarship campaign. The drive got contributions from the participants and several tuition scholarships by the Jewish Agency. » HADA8SAH open meeting, at •the Royal York Hotel, had Mrs. iBarnett B. Brickner. of Cleveland, Ohio, as guest speaker, describing her six-month trip with Rabbi Brickner to North Africa, Asia, Europe, and Israel. Mrs. Brickner has been active for years in American Ha-dassah, and founded the first Canadian synagogue sisterhood, that of Holy Blossom Temple, and was its first president. A .used clothing drive at 651 Spadina Avenue, on September 25 and 26; and the Hadassah bazaar, on Tuesday, October 80, were announced. Mrs. L. J. Samuels was chairman. Central Chapter: Mesdames Sarah Stern, 224 Palmerston Avenue, B. Kliger, 98 Montrose Avenue, and S. Denorver, 48 Dewson Avenue, sold over $300 worth of ticket books, and collected $200 for the Hadassah bazaar being held on October 30 in the automotive building at the Exhibition where the chapter will conduct a miscellaneous booth. Mrs. Sarah Stern was honoured by having her name placed in the Golden Book. Queen Esther Chapter met at the home of Mrs. I. Fox, 279 Montrose Avenue, president. A past president, Mrs. A. Weinstock, gave a charity tea in her summer home at Belle Ewart, assisted by: Mesdames I. Fox, R. Lartdsberg, M. Slovin, I. Cohen, S. Margel, S. Sugar, I. Romberg, I. Shapiro, M. Shapiro, A. Latner, Miss Helen Cohen. Mrs. R. Landsberg was welcomed as a new member. Mesdames M. Goldhar, S. Milgrom, S. Sugar gave contributions collected from entertainments given in the country and at home. Members and families, and friends murched in a parade led by the 48th Highlanders Band, followed by the colour ptatfy "and guard of honour of General Win-gate Branch of the Canadian Legion, with the senior branches following; and the Army Service Corp*s Band, leading the young men and women's branches.
