The survivors are required to provide evidence against, camp officials sought for prosecution by the West German authorities. ,-.,- - Majdanek, once a camp for Polish Jewish prisoners of war, Was transformed into a concentration camp by the Germans for the Jews from the ghettos of Warsaw, Lublin, and its surrounding areas. There were five sectors/each split into twenty-four barracks. Majdanek was the scene of one of the Nazis' most monstrous acts. In one single day, November 3, 1943, there were 18,000 Jews murdered. In all, about 260,000 victims died in the gas chambers and at the hands of Nazi firing squads, and their bodies were burned in the crematoria of the camp.
