Full text: 28 THE DIARY OF ADOLPHUS GAETZ Saturd. 21st,—The Brig "Arab" sailed to day having got her guns on board again and every thing put in order; no damage done by lying on the shoal. Sund. 22d,—Married this evening Mr. George Wilson, of Barrington, to Mrs. Sarah Zwicker, widow of the late John Nicholas Zwicker, (who was a brother in Law of mine). The parties were married at the house of Mrs. Captn. Sponagle, sister of the Bride, at about 9 O'clock by the Revd. H. L. Owen. Monday 23d,—Intelligence was received this morning, per Telegraph from Liverpool, of the death of Captn. Stephen Sponagle at Demerara caused by sun stroke. This sad news has caused a house, in which there was joy and gladness last evening, to become this morning a house of mourning. Tuesday 2Jfth,—This morning the bridal party left for their home at Barrington. July, 1856. Sunday, 6th,—In the forenoon the Revd. Mr. Tocque,37 from Argyle, preached in St. John's Church, in aid of a Church now building at that place; in the evening he officiated again, after the sermon a collection was made for the above purpose. Wednesd. 16th,—The "Lunenburg packet" arrived this afternoon, bringing the organ for the Episcopal Church. Monday, 21st,—A Dancing school was opened this evening under the tuition of Mr. A. Ash, professor of Dancing. Terms 30/ per quarter. Tuesday, 22d,—To day the new Organ was put up in St. John's Church and is called a fine tone Instrument. The cost of this article, including freight from England, & package, and some minor expenses amounted to £125 Currency. Friday, 25th,—The hottest day of the season Wind W.N.W. The Ther- mometer stood at half past 12 O'clock at 95"; by 2 O'clock it rose to 97", and continued so untill 3 O'clock; at 4 O'clock it had fallen to 95" and at sunset to 93". At 9 O'clock in the evening it stood at 83" in my shop, with all doors open. Sunday, 21th,—The organ, which was recently imported from Eng- land, was played during service for the first time by C. R. Bill, teacher of music and Singing. Mr. Bill is engaged to play the Organ and teach the Choir singing, for three months for £6.
