Full text: 48 THE DIARY OF ADOLPHUS GAETZ Wednesd. 2nd,—The mails which were due on Monday evening only arrived here this forenoon at 11 O'clock, having been detained in conse- quence of the deep snow. Sunday, 6th,—The mails which were due on Friday evening arrived at noon to day, having been detained in consequence of the roads being blocked up with snow. Sunday, 27th,—This afternoon the children of the St. John's Church Sunday School, followed one of their school fellows to the grave. The de- ceased, Robert Hall, was son of David Hall of this town. The Revd. J. H. Drum officiated for the last time, in St. John's Church, to day; our Rector, Mr. Owen, being expected this week. Thursday, 31st,—Our rector, the Revd. H. L. Owen, who left on a tour to England for the benefit of his health, in December last, returned last night. The Revd. J. H. Drumm, who has been officiating in Mr. Owen's place left here for the United States this morning. Tuesday, 12th,—Two children buried to day, one belonging to Hibbert Young, the other belonging to John Miller. During this winter many chil- dren have been taken away, chiefly by the sore throat. Monday, 25th,—At 6 O'clock this morning, the Ladies, constituting the Bazaar Committee, assembled at the Temperance Hall for the purpose of receiving the contributions and decorating the tables therewith. The re- ceipts this day were £70. Died this morning, Mrs. Dorothy West, aged 90 years, an old inhabitant of this town. Tuesday, 26th,—The Bazaar was again opened at 10 O'clock this morn- ing but on account of the disagreeableness of the weather very little was done. The whole proceeds realized yesterday and to day amounted to £ which will be devoted to the paying off a debt due by St. John's Church. Died early this morning Mr. Casper Oxner, formerly a Merchant in this town, Aged 69 years. Joseph Howe the great political demagogue, who has been haranguing the people of this County in favor of the party so called "Great Liberals", arrived here yesterday afternoon. Wednesd. 27th,—Mrs. Dorothy West was buried to day. Thursday, 28th,—Electioneering excitement running high. The Can- didates for Legislative honors are the following, viz,—
