Full text: 42 THE DIARY OF ADOLPHUS GAETZ Bishop delivered a solemn address to the candidates, from the Chancel, and after the Ceremony, he delivered an able and forcible discourse from the pulpit, from 15th Chap. Mathew, 22nd verse. After the Service was ended, the Bishop took his departure for Mahone Bay, accompanied by Messrs. Snyder, Owen, and Drumm. Thursday, 17th, — On Sunday afternoon last, the Bishop left this in order to hold a service, and Confirmation at Mahone Bay, but the weather on that day being so very stormy, the Confirmation was postponed untill Wednesday; on Monday the Bishop proceeded to New Germany, where he confirmed 23 persons, and on Wednesday last, agreeably to appointment, he again returned to Mahone Bay, where he confirmed 60 persons. July, 1858 Saturday, 3rd, — Died yesterday evening at 7 O'clock, Mrs. Ann Smith, wife of Mrs. Jacob Smith, Cross Island. Aged 62 years. The deceased was brought from the Island this morning, and will be taken to he'r last resting place tomorrow. Sunday, ifth, — The late Mrs. Ann Smith, of Cross Island, was buried this forenoon at 10 O'clock from the house of Mr. Casper Oxner; a large number of persons attended the funeral. Thursday, 15th, — A Regatta is about being got up, to take place some- time in Autumn. A Meeting for that purpose was held this evening in the Court House, when the following gentlemen were constituted a Committee for the purpose of carrying out the necessary arrangements, etc. Geo. T. Solomon; John Creighton; Hugh M. Moyle; Joseph Creighton; Willm. N. Zwicker, Regatta Committee. Several boats of differents descriptions are being built for the purpose. Sunday, 18th, — Continued dull untill this afternoon, when the heaviest shower of rain fell that I ever beheld; the drops could be compared to noth- ing else than small sized hen eggs, it only lasted two or three minutes. Thursday, 22nd, — A meeting of the "Regatta Committee" took place this evening for the purpose of furthering their arrangements with regard to the intended Boat race. £62 has been subscribed. Tuesday, 27th, — Married at noon by the Revd. H. L. Owen, at St. Mathews Church, Lehave, Miss Mary Gertrude Rudolf, daughter of Chas. Rudolf, Esqr., to Mr. Frank Lawson, of Halifax. August, 1858 Saturday, 7th, — A Telegraph Message was received this afternoon from the Governor's Secretary from Shelburne, stating that the Governor55 would leave Shelburne for this place tomorrow morning.
