Full text: JUNE - AUGUST, I860 87 Tuesday, 19th,—Received a lot of damaged Goods, saved from the wreck of the Steamship "Hungarian" stranded on Cape Sable, for sale by Auction for and on account of Mr. George Payzant, of Liverpool. Sunday, 2^th,—Last night my shop was entered by some villain or villains and about two shillings in copper change extracted from the money drawer which was fortunately all the money it contained. The thief or thieves must have taken a fright while in the shop as nothing further had been removed although the shelves were full of Goods belonging to Mr. Joseph H. Bent who is still here. Friday, 29th,—The Government Steamer "Margaretta" arrived this forenoon from Halifax, for the purpose of taking back three men who had deserted from the Admiralty ship. They were captured two days ago by the Sheriff of this County, and lodged in Jail here. July, 1860 Tuesday, 2^th,—The Halifax Steamer "Neptune" is advertised to call at this port on Friday next for the purpose of taking passengers to Halifax to see the Prince. Passage money five shillings. Thursday, 26th,—Having concluded upon following the multitude I sailed to day in company with thirty others, in the packet "Sylvia" for Halifax to view the wonderous sights that will be seen there. August, 1860 Friday, 17th,—Arrived home this morning at 3 O'clock. The passen- gers were all safely landed after a tedious passage of 19 hours. Saturday, 18th,—The Monster Steamer "Great Eastern" passed this harbour between 1 and 2 O'Clock this afternoon bound for Halifax from New York. Sunday, 26th,—Uproar in the Lutheran Church, some difficulties having arisen between their Minister and people regarding prayer meetings. September, 5th—To day a Regatta came off at Chester; the pleasures of the day were enhanced by a large party, consisting of 150, having arrived there in the Steamer "Neptune" from Halifax, and accompanied by the City Band. A number of boat races took place. Wednesday, 12th,—The St. John's Sunday School picnic came off this afternoon at the farm of John Williams on. the first peninsula; 121 children were present besides 20 grown persons, teachers and visitors.
