Full text: SEPTEMBER, 18S5 17 Wednes. 12,—Arrived Schr. "Meridian", Maurice Murphy, master, 3 days from Boston, with some freight for this place. Intelligence reached Town to day of the death of Francis Hall, son of George Hall who was drowned from a Vessel while crossing the Atlantic. Thurs. 13th,—Thermometer at 80". The woods are on fire towards Port Medway; this Morning the smoke was so thick that the Battery point could not be seen. Friday, llfth,—From this time last year untill now may truly be called "a year of famine", for Flour has been ranging from 50.7 to 607 per barrell and every else in proportion. Butter which could be bought any other year at from 8d to lOd is now selling here at from 15d to ISd per Ib and scarce purchased 1 barrell of Flour out of a Vessel from Boston at 47/6 being the lowest that that Article has been sold at here since last year. Saturday 15,—Married this morning at 6 O'clock, at Mrs. Zwickers boarding House, by the Revd. Mr. Deblois,23 Minister of the English Church, at I Peninsula, Mr. Reuben C. Tooker to Miss Leonora Beardsley, of Bridge- water. Sunday 16,—Only one service in St. John's Church in consequence of the Revd. Mr. Owen being indisposed. Tuesday, 18,—The packet sailed this morning for Halifax with 20 pas- sengers. Thursd. 20,—Went to Mahone Bay this morning at 7 O'clock, for the purpose of selling the stock of Goods of James & Alexr. Zwicker by Auction. Saturday 22,—This evening the packet schooner "Sylvia" was launched, she was built for Edwd. Young & others, and is 52 Tons burthen. Built by Hibbert Young. Sunday 23,—No service in St. John's Church this morning, on account of the Revd. Mr. Owen24 being unwell. In the evening Revd. Mr. Snyde'r25 of Mahone Bay officiated. Wednesd. 26,—Heavy fires raging to the westward, the smoke is very thick. Thursday 27,—This morning the Smoke is so dense that the Harbour cannot be seen; it has not been ascertained where the fire is raging. To day the intelligence reached town, by Telegraph, being the news by the Steamer "America", which arrived at Halifax last night, that the Allied forces had gained a great Battle in the Crimea, having driven the
