Full text: JULY - AUGUST, 185S IS Thurd. 19th,—To day had a suit against Joseph Strum for breach of the Licence Laws; fined 40/ with Costs. Tuesd. 2Jfth,—Messrs Cassers & Saffery, professors of Music, from Halifax, gave Concerts in the Temperance Halifax (!) [Temperance Hall] yesterday and this Evening; those who went to hear them were delighted with the singing and performance of the piano. Friday, 27th,—Launched this evening at 6 O'Clock from the Shipyard of John Young,16 builder, the Schooner "Lunenburg Packet" intended by the owner to run as a regular Packet between this and Halifax. Owned by John Watson and others of this place. Sunday, 29th,—The packet from Halifax arrived this morning bringing Eliza Rudolf and her daughter Ellen passengers; they reside at my house. August 1855 Friday 3d,—Since Monday the weather has been delightful, and all those engaged in Agriculture are busily imployed making Hay. To day my wife & I went with a party on a pic-nic. At 9 O'clock in the morning we embarked on board a large Boat belonging to Casper Mason17 and sailed down the back harbour between Heckman's Island and the Main, passing through the Bridge we went as far as what is called the Lobster Rock, then returned and encampted on the second peninsula, on land belonging to the Herman's and adjoining Peter Mason; here we enjoyed some refreshment, and after spending a couple of hours at Peter Mason's house, we started again for home where we arrived at 9 O'clock in the evening, all well sat- isfied with the day's excursion. The party consisted of Dr. Fo'rrest18 and two daughters, Joshua Kaulbach, & wife, & 4 Children, Miss Jane LeCain, the Sheriff19 & wife & Son, Robert Scott & wife & 2 children, Joseph Rudolf, & wife & 2 children, John Creighton & wife & Son, Misses Rebecca & Ellen Oxne'r, Miss Ann Ernst, Mrs. Sophia Rudolf & Son, Miss Charlotte Harley, Henry Jost & wife & Son, together with myself & wife and her Sister Eliza Rudolf who is here on a visit. Tuesday 7,—Schooner "Camelia" from the Labrador laden with Fish, belonging to Edwd. Young, arrived. The roof of the Tower of the English Church is being covered with Zinc, commenced yesterday. Wedn. 8,—Died Mrs. Catherine McLeod, wife of McLeod painter, for- merly of Pictou (New Glasgow). Aged 23. Arrived Schooner "Moyle"20 owned by Edward Young, from a fishing Voyage to the Labrador with a full fare. Also Schooner "Union", owned by E. & W. Zwicker with a full load from the same place.
