Full text: 3O THE. DIARY OF ADOLPHUS GAETZ and ran for the different prizes. Fireworks, illumination, Torch light pro- cession, and Balls closed the days entertainment. A large party went from here in the packet "Sylvia",3" which vessel was fitted up for the purpose. Thursd. llth,—Married this evening about 9 O'clock, at Bridgewater, by the Revd. Henry Deblois, James B. Weddleton, formerly of Yarmouth, to Miss Caroline Jost, daughter of H. S. Jost of this place. This was an "Elopement extraordinary". The parties having been intimate with each other for about two years, the young gentelman at last resolved to lead the young lady to the Hymenial Altar; such however met with strong opposition from the father of the bride, and more particularly from her step mother, who, like the generality of step-daughter, and which caused a deal of dis- agreement between them while living together Things however were not to remain so, and the young folks, spite all opposition from father and step- mother, were determined to be united in the bonds of holy Matrimony. Accordingly, every thing being previously arranged, the young lady left her fathers house about 4 O'clock this afternoon, and walked about two miles from town, where her lover awaited her with a chaise and pair; as soon as she reached the carriage she jumped in and off they drove to the young man's residence at Bridgewater, where the marriage ceremony took place. Tuesday, 23d,—Married this evening at the house of Mrs. Tride'r, the brides mother, by the Revd. Wm. Duff,40 presbyterian, Robert Lindsay, merchant, to Louisa Trider, all of this place. October, 1856 Monday, 13th,—The remains of Peter Kaulbach were interred to day. The burial service was not read at the grave. (Note,—This man committed suicide by hanging himself from a beam in his barn. Mr. Gaetz's entry respecting this, has been re- moved from his Diary). Wednesd. 29th,—Finished the Tablets belonging to the Episcopal Church. Friday, 31st,—Put up the Tablets, which I have just finished, in St. John's (Episcopal) Church. Consisting of "The Lords Prayer", the "Apos- tles Creed", and the "ten Commandments". November, 1856 Sunday, 2d.—Revd. Mr. Cochran,41 of Halifax, preached morning and Evening in St John's Church, the rector of the parish, Revd. H. L Owen, read the prayers. Thursd. 6th,—A Telegraph despatch received, announcing the loss of the Schr. "Dart", of this port, owner J. Josh. Rudolf, crew and cargo saved.
