Full text: OCTOBER - NOVEMBER, 1855 19 Saturday, 20ih,—The Trial commenced yesterday between Petit and Schwartz occupied the Court all this day and only ended at 6 O'clock when the Jury brought in a Verdict for £20 for plaintiff. This trial caused great excitement from its being an election affray. Sunday 21st,—The Revd. Mr. Stamer2" officiated in the English Church. Mr. Owen read the prayers. Sunday, 28th.,—Revd. Mr. Owen resumed his duties in the Church, having become convalescent. Tuesday (!), 31st,—This month ends with the wind from the Eastward, and damp, looking much for rain of which we have had considerable, it has however been much milder than could have been expected, which has been a great saving of fuel. November 1855 Saturday, 3d,—To day a quantity of Liquor, about 180 gallons, was seized at the store of James Dowling by Danl. Owen, Seizg. Officer, said Liquor is supposed to have been smuggled. Tuesday, 6th,—To day I was necessitated, as Clerk of Licence, to have Joshua Kaulbach brought up for breach of the Licence laws. Fine imposed upon him 30/ and costs. Wednesd. 7th,—Occupied to day in painting a Colour for Mr. Alexr. Zwicker's Brig, now on the stocks at Mahone Bay. Friday, 9th,—Eliza Rudolph, and her daughter Ella, left this for Hali- fax in the packet Schooner "Sylvia". Saturday 10th,—Launched from the Shipyard of John Young, a Brig- antine called the "Odd Fellow", burthen about 126 tons, built for John Watson. A fine Vessel, Brigantine rigged, was launched this morning at Mahone Bay, Burthen about 136 Tons and called the "Active", built for Alexr. Zwicker, Senr. Arrived from Mackerel fishing the Schooners "Baronett",30 & "Dart",31 the former belonging to James Young, the latter to Joseph Rudolf, poor fares, fish scarce. Sunday, llth,—Arrived Schr. "Water Witch", owned by Wm. Zwicker, & Jas. Hunt, made rather a bad Voyage having only 80 barrells.
