Full text: ie THE; DIARY OF ADOLPHUS GAETZ Thurs. 9,—Died at 1 O'clock p.m., Mrs. Barbara Oxner, wife of Casper Oxner, Aged 63 years. Saturd. 11,—Attended the funeral of the late Mrs. Barbara Oxner at 3 O'clock p.m. Mond. 13,—Arrived Schooner "Volant", owned by Jacob Smith, Cross Island, with full fare of fish from Labrador. Attended trial of Patrick McGowan, as Clerk of Licence, whom I brought up for infringing the Licence law; fine imposed 30/ and costs. Wedn. 15,—Arrived Schooner "Napier", owned by Jas. D. Selig, from a fishing Voyage to the Labrador; made a bad voyage having only half fare. A Schooner chartered by Wm. Ross also arrived from same place with half fare. Thurs. 16,—Arrived Schooner "Water Witch", belonging to E. & W. Zwicker, from a fishing Voyage to the Labrador, with only half fare. Also a Schooner belonging to Lewis Hirtle, from same place with full fare. Tuesday 21,—To day the "Lunenburg packet",21 owned by J. M. Wat- son, & others, sailed on her first trip to Halifax, carrying about 20 passen- gers gratis. Friday 2^,—The brigtne "Halifax", chartered to convey the fishery commissioners along the coast, came in our harbour to day. September, 1855 Tuesday it,—To day my wife and I went to a pic-nic given by Mrs. Joseph Rudolf at the Battery. Returned in the evening at 7 O'clock. Thursd. 6,—Went to Mahone Bay in an Ox waggon in Company with Robt Lindsay, & Robt. Scott we walked home in the evening, after getting our Tea at Alexr. Zwicker's and arrived here at 9 O'clock. Friday 7,—A schooner from Pictou bound to New York put in here to day to dispose of some Coal, of which she was laden. Mond. 10,—The Revd. Mr. Forrester22 who arrived here last Saturday, and who has been appointed Superintendent of Schools, held a Meeting of the Commissioners of Schools at 3 O'clock, p.m., and at 5 O'clock a Meeting of the Schoolmasters. In the evening at 7 O'clock Mr. Forrester delivered a Lecture on Education, in the Temperance Hall Tuesd. llth,—The brigtne. "Boston Lady", belonging to Chester, ar- rived to day from Boston, with Stoves, and other Goods for different per- sons in this town.
