Full text: IS THE DIARY OF ADOLPHUS GAETZ Russians out of Sebastipol, and destroyed all their fortifications. Before the Russians left the Town they set fire to the place. In this battle many lives were lost. Elias Oxner and his Bride arrived from Halifax to day. The wedding took place at Halifax on Wednesday last 26th inst. Saturday 29,—This morning I went out to the premises of Christian Grimm, junr., for the purpose of selling said premises with Stock there on. At 1 O'clock commenced selling Mrs. Dobsons Furniture in Town and fin- ished at 3 O'clock. Sunday 30,—To day, both Morning & Evening, the Revd. Mr. Maturin26 officiated in St. John's Church, the Revd. Mr Owen being still unable to leave his room. October 1855 Mond. 1st,—In my Memoranda of Thursday 27th I omitted to say, that on the arrival of the news of the taking of Sebastipol, the Artillery Company turned out, and fired a Salute of 21 guns from the Block House Hill. Tuesday, 2nd,—This evening the Revd. S. T. Rand27 Missionary to the Mic-mac Indians, delivered a lecture in Temperance Hall on the State of the Indians under his charge. Wednes. 3d,—To day the wife of John Curl, Labourer, was interred, having departed this life on Monday last. Saturday, 6th,—This Morning the "Lunenburg packet", and the op- position packet "Sylvia", sailed for Halifax, the latter on her first trip. Sunday 7th,—Revd, Mr. Maturin officiated to day in St. John's Church, being the second Sunday of his sojourn here. Tuesday, 16th,—To day the Supreme Court opened, Judge Desbarres28 presides. Nothing of importance. Thursd. 18th,—A trial for breach of promise of Marriage occupied the Court from morning untill 8 O'clock in the evening. Miss Eliza Corkum, plaintiff, and Wm. Robinson, defendant, all of Chester. Verdict for plaintiff, damages £50. Friday 19th,—Court is still sitting. A trial commenced to day between John Petit, pltff., and Casper Schwartz, Defendt, This suit arose from a quarrell which these parties had on Election day, at which time the plain- tiff received a blow from defendent which laid him up for some time.
