Full text: MARCH - MAY, 1859 49 Conservative Henry S. Jost, of this town. Benjamin Zwicker, of Mahone Bay. Charles Lordly, of Chester Radical Henry Bailley, of this town. Henry Moseley,59 of Bridgewater. Benjamin Wier,60 of Halifax. The struggle between the parties will be great. The Arch Demagogue Joe Howe, who has been hired by the Radical faction, has in conjunction with the radical candidates, been perambulating the County, holding their meetings at different places and endeavouring to persuade ignorant people that their party are all right, and that their opponents are all wrong. Saturday, 30th,—Death has been busy this week, two more of our townsfolk departed this life this morning, namely John Fink, an old inhabin- tant, aged 82 years, and Mrs. Margery Rhuland, wife of William Rhuland, aged 24 years, the latter died of the prevailing disease, sore throat. May, 1859 Monday, 2nd,—Two funerals this afternoon; Mr. John Fink, and Mrs. Rhuland we're buried immediately after each other. Thursd. 5th,—This is "nomination Day", early in the morning the flags of both parties were to be seen floating from the different places in town. About 9 O'clock the Conservative party with Banners and music marched out to meet the party on their way from Bridgewater; soon the two parties met and marched into town in good order, displaying a large number of flags and banners and accompanied with a goodly number of musicians. The great Radical party soon followed, but their appearance was rather considering the great preparations made by them for the occasion. At 11 O'clock the several candidates were nominated, after which each in turn made his speech which occupied the whole time untill 4 O'clock when the Sheriff closed the meeting. Untill about 5 O'clock in the afternoon the streets were thronged with people, after that hour they dispersed, and the town soon became quiet. A large number of persons of both sexes were assembled in town, the excitement was greater than on any former oc- casion. Wednesd. llth,—A water logged vessell was yesterday fallen in with, about 15 miles off Green Island, by one of our Lehave vessels, and towed into Lehave; she proved to be the Schooner "Amazon" of Halifax laden with flour, which vessell was run into by a Barque from Glasgow bound to Bos- ton; the accident took place on Sunday last.
